We are pleased to welcome you to the Australasian Saltmarsh and Mangrove Network Conference 2023!
ABOUT
The AMSN was established to address the management issues that face tidal wetland habitats around the world. The conference will bring together researchers, coastal managers, industry representatives and member of community groups who work across mangrove and saltmarsh landscapes.
The conference theme is Living Coasts. We hope to bring together Australian and international colleagues to share their findings, ideas and experiences of studying and managing intertidal wetland systems so that they can continue to thrive into the future.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
The organising committee are happy to announce the keynote speakers for the upcoming AMSN Conference 2023.
Shing Yip (Joe) Lee
Joe Lee has been researching the ecology of coastal wetlands, particularly mangroves, since 1985 when he started a PhD on the carbon dynamics of mangroves at The University of Hong Kong. His work focuses on the ecological processes underpinning the function and services of coastal wetland ecosystems, and how key animals contribute to these processes.
To date, Joe has published > 230 papers on various aspects of coastal marine biology and ecology, including >130 on the carbon dynamics and other aspects of mangrove ecosystem ecology. Joe also contributes to the global conservation of mangroves through his role as chair of the IUCN Mangrove Specialist Group, since its establishment in 2014.
After successive academic appointments at The University of Hong Kong, Griffith University (Australia), and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Joe took early retirement in 2022 but continues to engage in mangrove conservation work and research everything interesting about coastal wetlands in his capacity as adjunct professor of the latter two institutions.
Peri Coleman
Peri Coleman has been standing in saltmarshes since not long after her birth, and runs a small consulting company called Delta Environmental Consulting, with five decades of professional experience working in saltmarsh and salt lake ecology and providing technical and biological advice to commercial solar saltfields, as well as serving on government boards with a concern for the coastal environment.
Her membership of the International Society for Salt Lake Research allows her to study salt lakes all over the world.
In 2017 she was jointly awarded (with Faith Coleman) the South Australian Unsung Hero of Science award in recognition of her work, and in 2021 she was awarded Conservation SA's highest award, the Jill Hudson Award for Environmental Protection, for her advocacy for saltmarsh and mangrove habitats, including the St Kilda mangroves.
Patrick Dwyer
Patrick works at DPI Fisheries in NSW where he manages a small team delivering projects that protect and rehabilitate coastal systems. A focus is sustaining ecosystem service values, now and into the future as sea levels continue to rise.
The work is part of the NSW Marine Estate Management Strategy and involves leading multi-agency and multi-disciplinary collaborations that span science, policy development, and uplifting communities to achieve lasting on-ground change. Patrick completed a degree in coastal management at Southern Cross University in 1996.
Since then, he has had roles at DPI Fisheries contributing to fisheries management, water management, development assessment, land-use planning and policy development.
